Solution Wide Variables

Would love it to have some solution wide variables that could be updated on the published site. An example of this use case (doesn't cover many other use cases) is I have emails happening as a part of workflows. I need to remember to go in after testing and update these to the prod addresses before publishing. I appreciate I can handle this a few different ways, such as emails groups that can be updated later, etc. I am currently storing these variables in a list with the solution, but extracting these variables is cumbersome as I do a get items in the actions list and then have to extract the variable, etc. 

I would love if the UI/actions options had a way to shortcut this so I could set different variable values in publishing vs testing and was easily editable after the solution was published.
