Pass values from one action to next

    This is a long awaited feature, but better late than never. We are happy that we can deliver it now!

    With the new release of our Action Builder & Expression Builder on Friday January 14, 2022 you can now access output values from previous actions in the Expression Builder. Please read this article for more details:

    Have a look at this answer to get a solution for passing values to next actions by storing results in window variables and access it in following actions.

    How about having something like an output variable, that can be specified in the "AddListItem" action. Basically this could do just the same thing (like saving the value in the window object), but could take care that the object is actually cleared, and would make it easier to reuse in subsequent actions.

    This describes exactly the initial idea. Therefore the idea is not closed and still open for voting.

    The instruction I linked above is for advanced users who want implement this functionality right now and are okay with handlig the variables by their own.

    Since we recently got support for promises ... maybe this would a way to go.

    A promise can return any kind of value, which will be passed to the next "function". So maybe it would be an option to call

    dfd.resolve("my results from code execution");

    in order to provide a return-value for the next action. Ideally this would be treated as a JSON and could be accessed in the context as "return-value of previous action".

    Just a quick thought ...
