Do you speak about the Tabbed Pages Add-In or Tabs as Part of Rich Forms in Solution Studio Online or MultiTabstrip-WebPart on SharePoint Server?
Depending on the Product there are different configuration possibilities.
Thank you for more detailed information!

It also depends on what you display inside a tab of course. If you display a case file and in one tab a huge list of associated documents try indexing the lookup column of the documents to the case file. This should speed things up for this scenario.

You're using the Tabbed Pages SharePoint Add-In which represents each tab as a new separate SharePoint page. Therefore each tab change results in a new page load that is performing faster or slower depending what's on your page.
If you want to configure tabs on your forms where you already use Rich Forms, better use the tabs feature of it, if you don't need a separate page per tab. Normally the requirement of separate pages is just present if the pages have significant differences in layout or styling.
