If you want to use Solution Studio on a tenant to create solutions and customize them, it has to be trusted once by a global administrator. The trust will create an enterprise application in your Azure Entra ID called “skybow Solution Studio” which has full read and write to all site collections.
skybow Solution Studio needs these permissions to build solutions on corresponding sites, otherwise it cannot operate in your tenant. If you cannot get this trust on your production tenant, read the alternative solution for this case here: App Deployment.
Solution Studio also takes into account the permissions of a solution creator on a site where the solution is to be created. If a solution creator does not have admin rights on a site, no solution can be created there. skybow does not receive a user account to access customer data and confirms that it has not installed any backdoors.
skybow stores the following data in their database:
-
Solution Name and Description
-
Site URLs
-
Email addresses and names of the solution creator and co-worker (relevant for communication in case of bugs and misconfigurations as well as sharing functions of solutions)
Step-by-Step Installation
- Sign up and register for a Solution Studio account using your Microsoft Work account or your Personal Account (Live ID) here: https://www.skybow.com/register/solution-studio
- Create the first solution on the tenant
- Approve this tenant with a global admin account or copy this link and sent it to your global admin to get it approved:
Permission request | |
Sign in and read user profile (User.Read) |
Allows Solution Studio to read the full set of profile properties, group membership, reports, and managers of other users in your organization, without a signed-in user. |
Have full control of all site collections (Sites.FullControl.All) |
Grants the app full control access to all site collections. |
- Solution Studio is now trusted and can be used on this tenant.
Note: you don’t have to complete this wizard and create the solution - Before creating the first solution make sure to have a global app catalog create in the SharePoint Admin Center. It’s available under “More Features” -> “Apps” or directly via this link:
https://[yourtenant]-admin.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/tenantAppCatalog.aspx
- Once the app catalog has been created, create a SharePoint Site e.g. a Team Site in the SharePoint Admin Center -> Active Sites -> Create
- Copy the url of the new site, go to Solution Studio and create a new solution whether from scratch or from a template -> Paste the url in the second field, choose a user that is site owner of this site and press “Start”
- Once the solution has been created, it will automatically redirect into Solution Studio where the customizations can be started.
